The AI Poster Epidemic: What Is Your Golf Club’s Online Shop Window Really Saying?

Written by Craig Blue

I woke up this morning, opened Instagram, and within two minutes I saw six completely different golf clubs advertising events using AI generated posters.

They all had that same uncanny glow, the same overly dense text layout, and the same distinct look. If you scroll through Facebook groups like Scottish Golf Noticeboard or Golf Courses of Scotland, it is the exact same story. Feed after feed is becoming entirely consumed by them.

Look, I want to be crystal clear right from the start. This is not a lecture, and it is certainly not a sneaky sales pitch. At Caddie Marketing, we use AI tools ourselves every single day for things like brainstorming and copywriting, supported by a full internal AI policy. We fully understand why golf clubs are using these tools. Club managers and small teams are under immense pressure, resources are tight, and time is always short. Being able to create a flyer in five minutes to promote an open competition or a membership drive is genuinely helpful. At least the events are getting promoted, which is a great starting point.

However, as someone who is admittedly very fussy about how a golf club presents itself online, I think we need to talk about what this trend is actually doing to your brand.

Standing Out or Blending In?

When every club uses the exact same software templates, your marketing stops looking unique. Instead of standing out, your post simply blends into an endless sea of identical-looking graphics.

Beyond that, these graphics often churn out way too much information at once, making it tough for a golfer to quickly spot the key details. They can also distort reality. When AI starts modifying images of your course or adding exaggerated features that do not actually exist, it creates a visual that simply is not true to your venue.

There is also the trust factor to consider. Major platforms like Meta now automatically flag AI-generated content. With so much public scepticism around AI media right now, do you really want a post being tagged as AI content sitting on your club’s official social media feeds?

The State of Your Digital Shop Window

Here is the biggest issue, and it is something I discuss with golf clubs constantly.

When you publish a graphic, it is easy to tick the box and think job done. But have you looked at what your actual Instagram grid looks like as a whole afterwards?

Your social media feed is your online shop window. When a golfer considers visiting your course or joining as a member, they head straight to your website and your social channels to get a feel for the place.

Right now, far too many golf club feeds look less like a prestige venue and more like a messy street corner where a dozen different event flyers have been plastered over each other. To make matters worse, standard poster dimensions rarely fit the 4×5 or 3×4 aspect ratios required for Instagram. The result? The edges of your graphic get chopped off on the grid, hiding key text and making the page look messy.

Where are the stunning photos of your course in the morning light? Where are the authentic shots of your clubhouse, your greenkeeping team, or your members having a great time on the 18th green? That real human element is what actually sells a golf club.

A Quick Step Back

Again, we completely get why it happens. AI is fast, convenient, and accessible. But when a prospective golfer lands on your profile, that initial visual impression matters immensely.

Using smart tools to save time is great, but let us not lose sight of what makes your club unique in the process. Your course has incredible scenery and real stories to tell, and that will always beat a generic computer-generated graphic.
